Stretching Me
February 6, 2008
For the rest of this week I will be substitute teaching for a P.E. teacher at one of the local middle schools here in Oconee County.
Yes, you read that right – Middle School.
And yes, you even read this right – Physical Education.
Now many of you who read this blog know me well enough to know that I LOVE sports and I LOVE students, which is one of the reasons I enjoy coaching so much.
But putting me in a gym with about 40 6th graders to intruct them in how to shoot a bow and arrow (yes, Archery is the subject for this week), tends to be a little bit more challenging for me. And no matter how cool of a story it might be for a future sermon illustration, I’m still praying to the God in Heaven that NO ONE ACTUALLY GETS SHOT!
Like I told Teresa last night, I can handle some basketball or maybe even a little volleyball, but archery is definitely an area in which God will be stretching me especially when it involves 6th & 7th graders.
So I’m asking you to please pray for me today. I really want to love on these kids and let them see the love of Christ through me.
And in all honesty, I’m actually looking forward to today and even the rest of the week because I know God can teach me something even through an experience as trivial as this. And when you really think about it, it should be a lot of fun!
So I’m praying for God to stretch me today.
What are you praying for God to do in your life today?
Is there an area of your life in which God may be looking to stretch you? Why don’t you ask Him to put you in situations where you might be stretched in some way today so that you, too, can learn to become fully reliant on Him.
You never know, you might just have the time of your life! And God may just be looking for a new way to teach you something as well.
So open yourself up to Him and see how He chooses to stretch you today!
