God has taught me a lot about tithing the last couple of years. And I guess, if I think about it, I’ve come to understand that this lifestyle of TITHING is really more about TRUSTING than anything else. Here a few reasons God has taught me this is true…
1. He doesn’t need my money. He was doing just fine before He got it and He will be doing just as well after He gets it. He only wants me to tithe in order to trust Him!
2. He doesn’t want my money. He really wants me. But in order for Him to know I’m totally His, I have to be willing to give all that I have, even when it comes to my wallet (or ladies, your purse). Giving my tithe shows ME I trust Him.
3. He doesn’t get my money. It’s all His anyway. And its really hard to give someone something they already own, especially when you can’t claim it at all. Point being, He’s really only letting me borrow it (or “steward” it, for you legalistic freaks) so giving Him what’s His is actually a no brainer. Think about it – He offers me enough to show He trust me. Why can’t I offer it back if for no other reason than to show HIM I trust Him.
Because, again, its really not about the money. From His perspective, its all about me and how much I trust Him!!! I always seem to hear Him asking,
“Do you love Me enough to actually trust Me, even when times get tough?”
This week, we are challenging our Launch Team to give their first Tithes. Not their tips, mind you, but their tithes in order to Biblically illustrate their trust in their Savior and His living Church through no better way than offering their tithe. And we couldn’t be more excited because of the way we know God will be honored!
Yes, it is a suffering economy. Yes, gas prices are soaring. Yes, stock markets are crashing. Yes, jobs are closing. And yes, my wife and I are poor church planters facing the same instability with oppressing finances.
But YES, God is still providing!!! So we should do everything we can to put our trust in His provisions.
The only question is, “How much do you TRUST Him?”
WOW!!! That is all I can say about this post! You hit the nail on the head, dead center!!! Man continue to sit in the lap of God and hear His voice! Continue to challenge us!!!
