God has given me a wonderful opportunity to learn from so many incredible leaders. But the one leader who has poured into my life from the day I was born is obviously my dad. As a former football coach, the majority of my life lessons can somehow be traced back to one gridiron analogy or another. And having played the game myself, so many of these analogies I’ve learned through real-time experiences.
To be quite honest with you, I can probably associate how to deal with any number of life circumstances to how I learned to deal with them either on the field or in the locker room, but the one that I remember and revert back to the most is the one I learned from ”UP-DOWNS”…
That’s right. The very first drill you happen to learn every first day of practice where the coach tells you to stand in place, chop your feet, listen for the whistle and when its blown to hit your chest on the ground.
“Why?” you may ask, outside of warming up your body or conditioning your self…
Because every time you hit the ground you learn to bounce back up!
There’s no laying on the ground around here. There is work to be done. There are goals to be accomplished. And there are times you are going to get knocked down in the process.
Its inevitable. If you play the game long enough, then you are going to get knocked down. In fact, if you don’t end up on the ground at some point during the game then you just aren’t playing the game the right way.
But what you learn is to bounce back up. You are only there long enough to hit your chest, get back up, and start chopping your feet all over again.
So my challenge to you is to bounce back up! Don’t just lay there. Don’t even think about laying there. It’s time for you to get back up and go do what is God has called you to do.
Not sure who needed to hear this today, but maybe its a lesson we can all remember to put into practice when the tough times come and we get knocked down.
