Let me first thank you for checking out austinporter.org! I hope you find something you like. Just so you know a little bit more about me, here is a little information for you. Sort of a Top 10 list of things you may want to know about me…

1. I love my beautiful wife Teresa! She is my high school sweetheart, the girl of my dreams, the future mother of my children, the hottest woman woman I have ever seen in my entire life, and best wife a man could ever ask God for.

2. We have the craziest dog in the world. He is a white haired golden retriever full of energy, affection, and mischeif. His name is Tanner and we love him with all of our hearts. He is our baby-boy and he knows he’s spoiled. The dog actually thinks he can sleep in the bed with us…

3. I love the local church. Yes, I know… It can be INSANE sometimes. But I truly believe with all of my heart that the local church is God’s plan to redeem the world through Jesus Christ. So you will probably see several post on this site about the local church given it is God’s call on my life to serve Him in a full-time pastoral ministry capacity.

4. Just in case you are wondering, I am currently serving as a substitute teacher in the Oconee County School District. My wife & I have surrendered to God’s call on our life to one day start a church in order to reach those who are so far from God that they don’t even know it. So as we are just now in the beginning phases of stepping out in faith to plant this church the way God desires it to be planted, we are still trying to serve Him exactly where He has placed us so that we can reach as many people as we can possibly reach. And right now, my mission field is the local school system where kids need to see and hear the Gospel every single day!

5. I absolutely love sports – namely FOOTBALL. I am a die hard Carolina Panther football fan, a kick you in the teeth if you ever say one negative thing about West Oak Warrior Football fan, a week to week Clemson Football fan, and maybe even a fair weather Florida Gator football fan. But regardless of the teams, I am a crazy, insane, over-the-top, in your face football fan. I love football from the high-school level to the pro level. So make sure to check back often, especially if you are a fellow football fan and it is during the middle of football season (but we all know, there never really is any off season)!

6. By the way, I do enjoy some North Carolina Tarheel college basketball. And maybe even some other college basketball, especially during March Madness each year.

7.  I love food and I love exercise. These two things don’t normally go together, but I am trying to make them work for me.

8. Rock music is the BEST music ever created. If it ain’t rockin’, I’m not buyin’. I don’t really care who it is. It just has to rock your face off when you listen to it. What other reason is there to really ever listen!

9. Scripture is the most incredible book ever written. There is nothing more enjoyable for me than to learn from the stories of some of the world’s biggest screw ups and see how God still chooses to use them to do amazing things.

10. And this is what excites me more than anything. It is my heart’s desire for Jesus’ name to be made famous. He has completely changed my life and I believe he can change yours, too. God has given me the heart of a church planter, and I want to see his mission completed through the life of the local church. I want to see people in a given community join together under the name of Jesus so that his name can change the lives of those around them. If this is what grabs your interest the most, then make sure to check this site regularly because I promise there is more to come about this subject…

Reading your blog has made me want to give it all up and go into full time ministry too. Your heart is in the right place and one day God will bless you with your own church. Timing. It’s all about timing. In the meantime, continue to persevere, pray and never, ever lose your passion.

  3. Hi Austin. I think Chris and I may have met you guys at Evolve. We are in the first stages of this “church planting journey”, too…and have a similar story. Chris is a computer programmer by trade, but when we attended UNLEASH ‘07 at NewSpring Church, GOD TURNED OUR WORLD UPSIDE DOWN!! Now it is our passion to reach people in Florence, SC who are far from God (and, as you said…”don’t even know it”) and eventually see this city TURNED UPSIDE DOWN for Jesus. Just wanted to let you know what an inspiration your blog is to both of us, and that we have a lot of love for you guys, and many of the same guys that you speak so passionately about here. We are praying for you on your journey. While we ourselves are scared to death, and know that much work is yet to be done, we feel that this is the most AWESOME thing we have ever experienced, and we just CAN’T WAIT to see what God’s gonna do!!

  4. Enjoyed reading your bio. When do you plan on planting your church? I love church planting. I planted a church in San Francisco (www.hotdogchurch.com) and was the pastor there for 13 plus years. Now I’m back in NC Charlotte planting The Salt Mine Church (www.thesaltminechurch.org) I’m glad to hear your a sports fan. I work with http://www.2xsalt.org and we are all about sports as a way of reaching kids and families for Christ. I get to work with David Thompson, Bobby Jones and Bart Kofoed. All these guys are ex NBA guys and love God big time. Well, anyway I hope to hear more about your church. Let me know how I can be praying for you.
